Walking in Jerusalem on the Sabbath has a romantic and magical quality. I was struck by the tenderness older people have for one another. They touch each other, they walk arm in arm, they seem to have a close physical and emotional relationship. At dusk, one Sabbath evening, while walking with my husband, I saw an older couple walking arm in arm. The cane he carried was not for support, but part of an "old world" tradition.
