We had dinner one Friday evening at the home of some old friends who had made "aliyah" (emigrated) from Chicago to Israel. The wife had taken a Hebrew name, Malka, which means Queen, and I watched while she carefully and lovingly lit the Sabbath candles. It was the first time in many years that I had seen this ritual performed, and I was enormously moved.
